The Power Of Supercomputers

Get ready for some of the craziest technology news we’ve gotten in a while. If you’re familiar with supercomputers, you know they’re some of the fastest machines on the planet in terms of computing and crunching numbers. If you’re not familiar, let me just fill you in one of the new advancements that may develop in the years to come that show off just how powerful these mechanical beasts are.

Scientists and health experts are predicting that supercomputers will be able to create a 3-D rendering of your entire body, allowing you to depict any irregularities in your system. Dr. Larry Smarr has been studying anatomy and pioneering this path by having doctors perform surgery on him using a “Google Maps” for his body. Strange, but super cool.

Smarr took his surgeon into his “virtual reality cave” so they could decide where insertion A and B would take place. It is almost like planning out a surgery in a video game, except this time it took place in the real world. With the power of supercomputers only getting stronger, the reality that they could one day map every bodily system to give us an accurate depiction of our health would not only improve the medical industry immensely, but it could also give us new ways to cure diseases that have yet to be deciphered.

Check out the videos above for more on supercomputer awesomeness, but if you’re squeamish, you might want to skip the part where Larry gets his surgery.
