The pandemic is finally calming down, and people are returning to the streets vaccinated and mask-free. Finally, you can breath in that fresh air and sunshine. Or, alternatively, you can stay inside and spend the summer playing video games. I know what I’m choosing, and with the Steam Summer Sale upon us once again, I don’t think I’ll be spoiling for stuff to play any time soon.
The theme of this year’s Summer Sale is “Forge Your Fate.” I guess someone at Valve is a big fan of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books, because they’ve written up a variety of short CYOA stories themed around various game genres, including Action, RPG, Simulation, Horror, Roguelike, Anime, and more. If you follow these stories and make a selection at critical junctures, you’ll receive special Steam stickers themed to the story and your decision. You have until the end of the sale to claim all of these stickers.

Additionally, Steam has introduced Game Profiles, which is really just a fancy name for “all of the game-themed stuff you can buy for your profile page in a convenient package.” Instead of using your Steam Points to buy animated backgrounds and avatar portraits separately, now you can just buy them all at once for a lump sum. There are also the usual Summer Sale trading cards, which you’ll receive from going through your Discovery Queue and buying stuff, that can then be forged into Summer Sale badges.
