Trainer Battles Finally Coming to ‘Pokemon Go’

2019 will mark a huge change in ‘Pokemon Go,’ as Niantic has announced that trainer battles are coming “very soon”. For many ‘Pokemon’ players, competitive battling is the creme de la creme of the main ‘Pokemon’ games. Players spend countless hours breeding and IV training in order to get the best possible ‘Pokemon.’ And now, it looks like ‘Pokemon Go’ players will also be able to experience the thrill of competitive battles.

Details at the moment are sparse, and Niantic themselves have stated that they don’t know anything about how the feature will actually work in practice. With that little tidbit of transparency, it can be expected that trainer battles will probably be a bit wonky when they first come out.

Many ‘Pokemon Go’ players are interested in other details about the feature, such as whether it will cost in-game currency, if there will be rewards for victory, or if berries and candy can be wagered. Trading is limited to friends within 100 meters of your location, but competitive battling in the main games is a worldwide thing. Will it be the same in ‘Pokemon Go?’

There are a lot of questions that players would like to see answered, but will probably have to wait until early 2019 before we get any real meaty tidbits about the long-anticipated trainer battle feature.
