The world’s most advanced camera camera was just released and it is said to have the ability to help expedite the search for alien life. The alien-spotting device was created by a group of international physicists. The tool is a dark-speckle near-infrared energy resolved Superconducting Spectrophotometer (say that three times fast). The device is called ‘Darkness’ and will give astronomers a powerful tool for spotting worlds around other stars, more specifically, exoplanets. The suitcase sized camera is able to filter out light from other stars and get to new places as well as compensating for atmospheric distortion unlike a normal telescope. All of this means that the camera will have the ability to measure light and see the composition of exoplanets’ atmospheres. Seeing the atmosphere could help astronomers determine the planet contains gases that could sustain life. So who knows? Maybe we will be moving to a different planet sooner than you think.
