Ever been so fascinated with the sun that you wish you could see it rise and set more than once a day? Well, now you can, inside the world’s first luxury space hotel, “Aurora Station.” In this hotel, guests can view the sun rise and set for a total of 16 times each day.
Aurora Station is the first project of start-up company Orion Span, which aims to provide a brand new, literally out-of-this-world destination for aspiring space tourists. The project was first unveiled last year at the Space 2.0 Summit in San Jose, California.
CEO Frank Bunger says that they are launching “the first-ever affordable luxury space hotel,” however, it seems like ‘affordable’ is quite relative in this case. After all, Space.com reports that a 12-day stay aboard the Aurora Station will still be starting at a staggering $9.5 million, which not a lot of people will probably describe as “affordable.” Based on past data though, it seems like this is indeed ‘affordable’. Seven private individuals have taken a total of eight trips to the International Space Station (ISS), with each trip costing around $20 million to $40 million.
“The goal when we started the company was to create that innovation to make simplicity possible, and by making simplicity possible, we drive a tremendous amount of cost out of it,” Bunger tells Space.com. “Our long-term vision is to sell actual space in those new modules. We’re calling that a space condo. So, either for living or subleasing, that’s the future vision here — to create a long-term, sustainable human habitation in LEO.”
Aurora Station was supposed to accommodate guests starting in 2022, but recent reports say that it now plans to welcome its first six guests in 2021. If you’re interested in this luxury space hotel and have got an extra $80,000 in your pocket, you might want to check out the company’s page on SeedInvest. You do have to hurry though, as they’re closing up investments in less than 36 hours.
