Capcom has excited fans by announcing that Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury and King of Fighters will join Street Fighter 6 as guest characters in Season 2, marking a historic first for the franchise.
In a recent Famitsu interview, Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto discussed the development process for these iconic characters. Nakayama revealed, “We at Capcom collaborate closely with SNK to ensure the authenticity of Terry and Mai’s moves, working from design documents and expanding from there.”
This collaboration highlights Capcom’s commitment to detail and lore, as seen with previous character inclusions like Shin Akuma. Nakayama hinted that Terry’s Rising Tackle would be part of his move set, and there may be unique abilities reflective of their original games’ mechanics.
Matsumoto shared that while the idea of including Terry and Mai was discussed around Evo 2022, the final decision wasn’t made until six months later. “The collaboration posters at Evo 2022 hinted at the partnership, but Terry and Mai were finalized a bit later,” he explained.
Regarding potential interactions between Terry and Ken, Nakayama noted, “We’ve been very aware of their past connections during development.”
For World Tour mode enthusiasts, Nakayama confirmed that Terry and Mai will be integrated as Masters, allowing players to learn from them and take selfies. “We’re particular about the story and fans will recognize key scenes,” he said.
One significant question remains: does their presence in World Tour mode make them officially canon in the Street Fighter universe? Fans will have to wait and see how this exciting crossover unfolds.
