Samsung might be leaping ahead of Apple by taking a step backwards into technology’s past. The smartphone giant is deciding to launch a foldable phone, something that we haven’t seen in any major smartphone in the past 10 years. By bringing back a collapsable flip phone, Samsung is posted to reinvent the wheel for a potential success.
First announced by a prototype video in 2013, rumors have been circling about the return to flip phones for five years now. Now, people are predicting the launch to happen as early as 2019, way sooner than any of us could have predicted.
This venture into the foldable phone business is another way in which Samsung hopes to make phones more affordable. After launching the Note 9, which cost $1250, the company realized it needed alternatives to keep its budget buyers still in the loop. We’ve seen apple do this with phones like the iPhone 5C, but it seems to have been an idea of the past until now.
We have no idea what it will look like, what its specifications will be, or when it will be released, but the announcement is rumored for November of this year. Hopefully, Apple and Google will be able to share the spotlight with Samsung for this announcement.
