Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Have A 60-Hour Campaign

Rockstar shared a few miscellaneous statistics about the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. Of note is the projected length of the game’s campaign: a mighty 60 hours. According to an in-depth making-of article from Vulture, the game’s campaign was actually slated to last 65 hours, but five hours had to be cut due to a crunch period to meet the game’s October 26th release date.

Multiple details have been cut from the game to meet this limitation, including a second love interest for the game’s protagonist, Arthur Morgan, an entire mission involving bounty hunters on a train, and more. As a result of this, a lot of the already-finished acting work had to be scrapped, which some of the developer team took issue with. Team leader Dan Houser says that every game requires some cutting work, and that’s it’s a matter of “compromise and horse trading,” and that nobody likes having their favorite part scrapped.

The campaign time estimate doesn’t factor in Red Dead Online, which will release after the main game in November. Much like Grand Theft Auto Online, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online mode will be theoretically infinite.
