New Nintendo of America President Named

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced his retirement from his position after more than 15 years at the company. The new president? Nintendo of America’s former senior vice president of sales and marketing, Doug Bowser. Yes, you read that right: Bowser, Mario’s arch-enemy.

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said in a statement on Thursday.

Obviously, the new president’s name has sparked more than a few jokes on social media. User @supergreatfrien tweeted, “It’s the first day of knowing that Nintendo of America’s new president’s name is Doug Bowser, and the jokes are old already. Also it’s not funny for the NoA employees who now have to search the building to find the stars to unlock his office door when they need to talk to him.”

Bowser himself (the new president, not the king of the Koopas), knows the significance of his name in the Nintendo universe. In fact, the first photo posted of him when he first joined the company four years ago showed Mario and Luigi plushies tied up behind him.

To this, user @Nibellion says, “We never getting a new Mario game ever again.”
