Less than a month ago, seasoned horror film maker James Wan excited fans of the classic horror series when he announced that the ‘Resident Evil’ movie reboot would be returning to its horror roots. James Wan has notable horror film credits to his name, including ‘Saw,’ ‘Insidious,’ and ‘The Conjuring,’ so when he made the promise that the ‘Resident Evil’ reboot would be a horror film as it should be, fans knew the reboot was in the right hands.
Which it’s why it is such a shame to hear that James Wan, who was set to be producer, has left the project. Details on Wan’s departure are not forthcoming, but what is confirmed is that Wan is most definitely no longer producing the ‘Resident Evil’ reboot. James Wan served as director of the new ‘Aquaman’ film, and some are speculating that Wan will be given more work in the DCU and that this leaves him with no time to work on ‘Resident Evil.’
Regardless of the reasons, Wan is out, and doubt is in. A replacement for Wan has not been announced yet, but let’s just say we shouldn’t get our hopes up that the promise ‘Resident Evil’ will return to its horror roots will be kept by the next producer.
