Google currently has somewhere within the realm of about 7,000 employees in New York City, and are looking to more than double that number within the next few years. More employees means more space, and Google has its sight on Hudson Square.
Aptly named Google Hudson Square, the new campus will have more than 1.7 million square-feet of space, which should be more than enough to house the influx of new employees that the tech giant hopes to hire in the coming years.
Google CFO, Ruth Porat, went over the details on Google’s official blog site.
In addition to the building of a new campus in New York City, Google is also investing in the surrounding communities and businesses. According to the blog post, setting up roots means branching out beyond the Google campus to help those in need. This ranges from plans to provide free public Wi-Fi to public school students, as well as fund programs to encourage people, youths in particular, to enter the digital space and learn to program and code.
The Hudson Square campus is expected to be completed something in 2020.
