Elon Musk Shakes Up Twitter: Introducing X.com

In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has decided to revolutionize the popular social media platform. The big news came in the form of a tweet from Musk, announcing that Twitter will be rebranded as X.com, with a new “interim X logo” set to replace the familiar Twitter bird icon.

Musk’s excitement about the change was evident when he took to Twitter around 12 AM ET, bombarding his followers with tweets about the upcoming transformation. He expressed his intention to bid farewell to the Twitter brand and gradually retire all references to birds. To kickstart the rebrand, he called for creating a compelling X logo, promising to make the change live worldwide as soon as a suitable design was found.

Throughout the following hours, Musk continued to drop hints and reference the upcoming change amidst his usual tweets and interactions with other users. He even participated in a Twitter Spaces session, remaining silent until he eventually confirmed that the Twitter logo would be replaced and humorously added that it would be removed from the building using blowtorches.

Not stopping there, Musk reportedly sent an email to Twitter employees, informing them of the imminent shift to X.com and vowing that it would be the last email he would send from a Twitter address. The move was likely meant to emphasize the significance of the rebrand, as Twitter’s business had already been renamed X Corp.

Describing it as “minimalist art deco,” Musk acknowledged that he might refine it further down the line. Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino also joined in, sharing the logo with enthusiasm and embracing the change.

Notably, Marques Brownlee, who had been on the platform since 2009, expressed his intent to continue calling it Twitter. In response, Musk playfully quipped, “Not for long.”

The letter “X” holds significant meaning in Musk’s ventures, appearing in the names of various companies he has founded, from the original name of Paypal (X.com) to SpaceX and the Tesla SUV. Musk has even expressed his vision of transforming Twitter into “X, the everything app.” With the acquisition of the X.com domain from Paypal in 2017, he has now found the perfect opportunity to realize this ambition.

The rebranding of Twitter to X.com signifies a profound shift in the platform’s identity under Musk’s ownership. It represents a clear declaration that Twitter is evolving into something entirely new.
