The depths of the ocean are truly Earth’s final frontier, a fascinating point of study for any marine biologist. Unfortunately, in the world of Dredge, those depths are populated by gigantic sea beasts with a distinct distaste for naval vessels, so attempting to explore around there isn’t a great idea. Luckily, one of the nice things about science is that it’s really good at providing solutions when nature starts getting snippy. Here’s how to get the Stellar Basin Relic in Dredge.

Dredge: How to Get Stellar Basin Relic

In Dredge, Stellar Basin is a region located in the southwest section of the ocean. It’s home to a gigantic, deep-sea pit, full of unusual life forms. It’s also home to a titanic kraken that will tear your ship to shreds if you sail through the center for more than three seconds. This is a problem because one of the Relics that the Collector is looking for is smack in the middle of the basin. In order to get it, you’re going to need to get that squid off your back, as well as procure some specialized equipment.

If you head to coordinates D5 on the far side of Stellar Basin, you’ll find the Old Fortress, where a Researcher is studying the anomalous effects that the kraken is having on its environment. She’ll provide you with the solutions to your problems, but first, you need to do her a favor. She needs samples of three of the local fish varieties:

  • Firefly Squid: Only appears at night, requires a Coastal rod. Look for clouds of blue-colored dots beneath the water.
  • Glowing Octopus: Only appears at night, requires a Shallow rod. Look for wider blue-colored ribbons beneath the water.
  • Aurora Jellyfish: Only appears at night, requires a Coastal net. Can only be caught by trawling around Stellar Basin.

Once you bring the Researcher her specimens, she’ll concoct a plan to disable the kraken and allow you to fish in the middle of the basin. The first step is visiting the Research Outpost at coordinates G4. Search the lab to obtain the Prototype Parts, then bring the parts back to the Researcher at the Old Fortress. She’ll provide with the Sampling Device, a special rod for catching Abyssal fish, and the Repulsion Device, which you can use to keep the kraken away for a little while.

Before you activate the Repulsion Device, you’ll first need to upgrade the Sampling Device, as the Relic requires Hadal equipment to fish up. Visit the Research menu from any dock and check the Rods menu to find a new option available, the Bottomless Lines, which can catch both Abyssal and Hadal fish. Spend one Research Part to unlock it, then purchase it from the nearby merchant for $450. It’s 2×3, so you’ll need at least four Rod slots in an L-shape to install it.

Once you’ve got the Bottomless Lines ready, return to the Research Outpost and plug the Repulsion Device into the generator. When activated, the device will release a sonic pulse that will chase the kraken away, allowing you to safely sail through the center of the basin. Once you can go through, simply check the fishing spots until you find the silhouette of the Relic, the Jewel Encrusted Band. If you’re having difficulty locating it, check at night; it’ll release red sparks above the water.

Once you’ve gotten the Relic, your business in Stellar Basin is effectively concluded, but if you’re not busy, you should grab some Abyssal and Hadal samples for the Researcher as thanks for her help. Just remember to crank the generator at the Research Outpost back up every day or so, lest the kraken return while you’re fishing.
