Annapurna Interactive’s ‘Donut County’

Annapurna Interactive has been providing surreal, niche gaming experiences that take players to interactive, thought provoking worlds, like that of the game What Remains Of Edith Finch. As a production studio, Annapurna has also had its hands in some memorable film titles such as Her, Sausage Party, and most recently, the Academy Award nominated film Phantom Thread. A platform designed for creators – Annapurna has dabbled in podcasts, virtual reality, and has dedicated itself to being a leader in bringing unique stories to life into creative ways.

Their latest endeavor puts you in the shoes (or feet) of a raccoon which will reach PlayStation 4, PC, and iOS on August 28th. Well, in a hole controlled by a raccoon. Do you ever have those days where you just want to swallow the whole world and everything around you? Donut County will let you do just thought.

Branded as a physics-based puzzle game, Donut County gives off a Katamari Demacy vibe of total destruction where you can slide around environments and devour everything in your path as a remote-controlled hole in the ground. However, what sets Donut County apart is its promise to lead the player into a deeper, meaningful story accompanied by mindless fun of destruction and puzzle-solving.

This game has been in development for over six years by Ben Esposito and boasts a polygonal, cell-shaded art style. The main character, BK, drives his own giant hole to swallow everything in his sights up, but Esposito promises things are sure to take an interesting twist. The pre-order costs only $10.49 on PS4, or can be purchased for $12.99 on all platforms. Rest assured, I’ll be sitting down with a donut in one hand and my mouse in the other as I traverse Donut County when it’s released on August 28th.
