Online play is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch! We have a confirmed release for the online subscription service… sort of. Developers have stated the service will be coming in the “second half of September” and here’s how the tiered service will work.
You will be able to pay for the online service monthly, every three months, or yearly. Luckily, the service is not nearly as expensive as PS4 or Xbox One’s online play. For one month, you pay $3.99, for three months you pay $7.99, and a full year will only cost you 20 bucks. Managing Executive Officer Shinya Takahashi says it has been “worth the wait” since the service was first announced. Originally, it was supposed launch in 2017, but the date was pushed back so the developers could tweak it to perfection.
Not only will multiplayer across the internet be available, but Nintendo will allow you to save your game files to the cloud for easier access. Nintendo has always been a gaming company that has seemed to lag behind its competitors in terms of online capabilities, but hopefully the Switch’s online compatibilities will change that. We have about a month left of waiting before we know for sure.
