Nintendo Halting Production of NES and SNES Classics in America

In a recent interview, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that production of both the NES Classic and the SNES Classic would be halted in America. Although it wasn’t stated, it was implied that the consoles would still possibly be produced in other countries around the world, but for America, the consoles still on the shelves are the last ones.

This isn’t the first time the consoles were cancelled. The widely successful NES Classic was bizarrely cancelled in April of 2017, despite massive sales. The SNES Classic came out in November of that year but production was cancelled at the end of 2017.

Both the NES Classic and the SNES Classic were brought back in the summer of this year, which fans were quite happy about. But this announcement should definitely worry American Nintendo fans without either of these consoles already in their possession.

After the sudden and much criticized cancellation of NES Classic production, when news came out of an SNES Classic, demand was sky-high. As a result, the SNES Classic became one of the biggest pieces of scalper bait in modern history, and availability was incredibly low. Now that both consoles will be cancelled for good in America, you can bet that scalpers will pop up from their hidey-holes to ruin some retro gamer’s Christmas.
