A password manager company, Dashlane, has recently analyzed 61 million passwords from years of large data breaches. The biggest takeaway? Most people are not at all original. Some people use a technique called ‘password walking’ which entails using adjacent keys to create a pattern based password. Hackers are very aware of password walking and are able to decode them efficiently. This may sound obvious, but it is important that you never base a password on the name of the website. The most secure way to create a password is to use a password manager such as Dashlane. This way, the passwords are actually random and therefore, more secure.
