What’s Next for Rockstar?

Rockstar Games, the renowned developer behind popular titles like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption 2, appears to have a new game in development that isn’t Grand Theft Auto 6. After the successful release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, which garnered critical acclaim, shattered sales records and earned numerous awards, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of Rockstar’s next project.

While Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to arrive sometime between 2024 and 2025, details about the game have been scarce. However, an intriguing leak suggests that the new installment will take place in Vice City and feature two protagonists, adding to its release’s excitement. But in addition to Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar appears to have another project up its sleeve.

Voice actor Michael Ursu’s resume has revealed his involvement in an undisclosed Rockstar game, specifically mentioning that it is a virtual reality (VR) project. The nature of this VR endeavor remains a mystery, leaving fans to speculate about what it could entail. One possibility is a VR port of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which was previously announced for the Meta Quest platform.

Although there haven’t been any updates on the project since its initial announcement, it is not expected to introduce new content requiring additional voice acting.

It’s worth noting that the development of the San Andreas VR port is primarily being handled by Video Games Deluxe, the studio responsible for L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. This VR adaptation of L.A. Noire successfully translated select cases from the base game into a virtual reality experience, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics. It’s possible that a similar approach will be taken with the San Andreas VR port, but only time will tell.

In any case, it’s evident that Rockstar Games has more than just Grand Theft Auto 6 in the works. Whether this involves a completely new project, as suggested by Ursu’s resume, or the anticipated San Andreas VR port, remains uncertain. Nevertheless, fans of the studio have much to anticipate and can look forward to immersing themselves in new gaming experiences in the near future.
