An all-electric Mission E was created as a show-car for German designer Porsche as a would-be rival to Tesla’s all-electric Model S. While, at first, it was supposed to be “all show,” fans showed so much interest that it has been officially confirmed that the Mission E will become a reality. Under the new name “Taycan,” which loosely means “lively young horse,” this fully electric vehicle is expected to retail for $75,000 dollars and will begin production in 2019.
Chairman of the Executive Board Oliver Blume stated “Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and the epitomizes freedom.” The name Taycan will have almost exact specs to the Mission E, sporting a 600 horsepower engine that can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.5 seconds, or 200 kilometers per hour in under 12 seconds.
The announcement of the Taycan fits hand-in-hand with the new “Porsche Charging Service” that digitally searches for suitable charging stations for your vehicle. The app will handle all payments for you and give you GPS directions to the exact station where you can refuel on electricity. Speaking of recharging, the Taycan will be able to cross 500 kilometers before needing more electricity. However, I’m not sure if that distance will be longer than the line for consumers to get their hands on this high-tech innovation.
