Make yourself happy before 2020 makes you sad again.

With the year we’ve been having, I don’t think it’d be an understatement to say that people are chomping at the bit for the holidays to get here. Aside from the warm, fuzzy feelings of the holiday season and all of the TV specials, the holidays are a time for buying stuff. Buying stuff is fun, especially when said stuff is new electronics. I love the smell of factory-sealed plastic in the morning. It’s not Black Friday just yet, but today does happen to be Singles Day, a Chinese shopping holiday, which is as good a reason as any to hold a big sale. Today, and only for today, Best Buy is holding a “Treat Yourself” sale, the intent of which should be obvious. Here’s a few choice selects from the lineup.

If you’ve been taking the whole quarantine situation of the last eight months as an opportunity to better yourself, first of all, you’re a stronger person than I. Secondly, it wouldn’t hurt to have a little technology in your corner. FitBit’s Inspire 2 fitness tracking smartwatch is currently discounted $30 to $69.95. It’s a nice, simple wearable device to track your activities and habits, and it’s got a long honkin’ battery life, so you won’t have to worry about it going dead on you in the middle of a run.

Perhaps you’ve been using the private time as a chance to expand yourself culturally. A worthy endeavor, for certain; emerging from the darkness with a newfound appreciation of art and music will make you the toast of the town when your social circle re-forms. If you want to get a deeper appreciation of music in particular, try Crosley’s Voyager turntable, discounted $30 to $39.99. This lightweight, portable spinner can play 33 1/3, 45, or 78 RPM records for that warm, retro vinyl sound. If you don’t have any vinyl, though, it also doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker.

But maybe you’re more like me, and have been using this down time to just play more video games. I ain’t ashamed to admit it, I know what I’m about. It’s a great time to be a PC gamer, with lots of titles big and small on the horizon. If you’re interested in getting into the scene, MSI’s GF65 gaming laptop is $300 off $899.99. This little wonder is loaded with an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and the latest RTX 2060 graphics card. Big gaming muscle in a small package.
