New Pokémon Games (FINALLY) Confirmed

The Pokémon company promised to deliver “shocking news” about the beloved Game Freak franchise in the coming weeks, and they were not lying.

Last night, two new Pokémon games were announced for the Nintendo Switch, set to debut on November 16th, 2018. These will be the first Pokémon games to be released for Nintendo’s console that follow the original RPG style of the classic 1998 games, specifically Pokémon Yellow.

In Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu!, the main character will have the yellow electric mouse on the character’s shoulder and head throughout the adventure. In the Eevee edition, the Pokémon Eevee will take Pikachu’s place as the main mascot.

The game’s are set to take place back in the original Kanto region and feature the 151 original Pokémon. There will also be a large emphasis on utilizing the Pokémon Go app in order to transfer Pokémon from your phone to the Switch with ease. In celebration of these announcements, Alolan Exeggutor was released to the mobile app for trainers to catch, with more Alolan Pokémon to be on the way.

There are three more exciting additions coming alongside the Let’s Go releases: a Pokéball controller that will allow you to walk and interact with your Pokémon outside of the game, the announcement of a brand new Pokémon (which GameFreak and Nintendo did not comment on), and multiplayer functions.

While not considered a “core game” like the handheld versions released in years past, Nintendo did confirm that a core Pokémon game will be released for the Switch in 2019.
