Shaken, not stirred.
MGM Resorts is reportedly considering the implementation of new technology in its behind-the-bar stations, in the hopes of speeding up service at casino bars. The concept is similar to how customers are able to fill up their own drinks at self-serve stations. MGM Resorts is hoping to make this the norm for Las Vegas hotels and casinos.
According to KTNV, the automatic stations would only be located at the back of the house and placed out of the eyesight or reach of guests. The report says, “the stations would then automatically measure and mix beverages at the proper pour size by simply touching a button.”
MGM Resorts assured KTNV that this would not “affect front-of-house or customer facing bars.” “It will make for speedier service,” says longtime bartender Greg Abate who has over 50 years of experience serving in the Valley. “And for customers who are in the dining room or in the lounge or wherever they are, it would be a benefit that way.”
This is not the first time that MGM Resorts has considered new tech. In 2018, the company entered a contract with The Culinary Union, wherein the agreement outlines “specific protections when it comes to new technology and how it would impact workers.”
