‘Elden Ring’ Receives First Major Patch

The biggest game of the season has received a few tweaks.

Elden Ring has completely taken the gaming world by storm, with perfect and nearly-perfect review scores across the board and over 12 million copies sold across all platforms. It’s hardly surprising; given the esteemed names developing it and the metric whoa-ton of hype it accrued over the course of its development, it was either going to be incredible or disappointing, and it landed firmly in the former category.

Now that the game has had a few weeks to breathe, the developers have set to releasing patches to address some bugs and tweak the game’s balance here and there. Last night, the first of such patches, the 1.03 update, released to all platforms, and it has some notable changes. Several new NPC questlines have been added to the game, and a new feature allowing you to track the locations of NPCs you’ve met has been added to the game’s map.

As for the game’s balance, defensive equipment like shields have been buffed, certain early-game items like Smithing Stones have been made easier to acquire, and several popular abilities, such as the Mimic Tear Spirit and Hoarfrost Stomp skill, have been nerfed or otherwise altered. The update also promises some performance enhancements, though details of those have not been provided.

You can read the full patch notes in Bandai Namco’s official press release.
