10k Is The Magic Number For Spotify

Spotify is always going to be at war with Apple Music, Amazon Music, and every other music streaming service on the market. For a long time, users have had one main gripe with the company. Spotify allowed users to download songs directly to their phone so that they could listen to their favorite music offline; however, this number was capped at a strict 3,333 total songs.

Now, you can get three times the number of songs… but there’s still a catch. The full number of downloadable songs you can have on your account is now 10,000. Unfortunately, for those who share their account across multiple devices, the cap on devices has only been increased from 3 to 5.

Sure, it’s an increase, but is it enough to rival the other competitors? This news comes directly from Rolling Stone, but failed to mention what Spotify’s competitors are doing. Currently, Apple Music allows you to store 100,000 songs on the cloud. Meanwhile, Google Play Music allows for half of that number: 50,000. Still, that’s 10 times more than Spotify. So why is the green giant still at the top of the food chain when it comes to streaming service? It probably has something to do with the student bundle. For $5.99 a month, you not only get premium streaming, but you also get Hulu and Showtime included. This is an example of Spotify selectively choosing partners to increase the marketability of its program.
