On my inner bicep, ever since I was 19, I’ve had Spyro the Dragon tattooed in all his confident glory for me to always remember the sheer entertainment he filled my PlayStation childhood with. Being able to head-butt and fire-breathe your way to save the dragon kingdom was a staple of my gaming experience as a child and on September 21st he’s soaring back into the spotlight.
In the wake of the success of the ‘Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy’ remaster, another Sony staple is coming back for a whole new generation. Developer Toys For Bob, the same developers of the N. Sane Trilogy and the Skylanders series is taking on the purple platformer for a remastered edition on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
The game will have updated, HD graphics and feature the original three Spyro games that everyone came to know and love including ‘Spyro The Dragon,’ ‘Ripto’s Rage,’ and ‘Year of the Dragon.’ Returning voice actor Tom Kenny will continue to voice Spyro, and original composer Stewart Copeland will offer the original and a remastered version of the original soundtrack that players can switch between during the game. Copeland said in an interview “I can’t wait for players to hear the new intro title track” as he notes the nostalgia that recreating the music for this classic game has brought him.
While there’s no word if PC or Switch players will also get to experience the dragon-infused fun, I’ll be sure to borrow my friends PlayStation or Xbox for a solid two weeks as I blast my way through all three games.
