Zero Zero Kickstarting New Autonomous Drone

Back in 2016, robotics company Zero Zero Robotics produced the Hover Camera, a compact drone designed to take pictures and selfies. What made the Hover Camera impressive was a built-in AI algorithm that allowed it to track a user via facial and body movement recognition. Less impressive was the steep price tag and sub-standard battery life. These, among other quirks, are what Zero Zero seeks to remedy with the release of Hover 2.

Zero Zero launched a Kickstarter campaign today to fund the release of the Hover 2 with a goal of $100,000. According to the promotional material on the campaign, the Hover 2 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, affording it four times the processing power of the previous model. The mold of the Hover 2 is similar to the first, but it also features an optional auxiliary lighter casing that improves flight time, aerodynamics, and control. Zero Zero is especially proud of a new feature known as the “Optical Radar,” which automatically alerts the Hover 2 to obstructions and movement. With this feature, the camera can follow a subject from any angle while the body automatically adjusts itself to stay out of trouble. Another new feature is “Blast Off Mode,” in which, when equipped with the lighter casing, the Hover 2 can shoot up into the air for massive panoramic shots while still being safely commanded from a special controller.

The Kickstarter campaign is set to run until December 29th, though as of writing, it has already exceeded its goal of $100,000 and sits at $198,469.
