Rupert Wyatt Leaves Live-Action ‘Halo’ Project

When it comes to TV or movie adaptations of video games, few are more requested than ‘Halo,’ a first-person shooter space epic that fast became one of the most popular and successful video game franchises of all time.

When news broke out that ‘Halo’ would be getting a live-action series on Showtime, fans were overjoyed. In the aftermath of the long-teased ‘Halo’ movie that would eventually die after years of floundering, the news of a TV series was great. Being able to watch familiar and new stories about the world’s favorite Spartan John-117 would be a dream come true. But unfortunately, the series has hit a snag of potentially big consequences.

Rupert Wyatt was supposed to serve as director and executive producer of the ten-episode, hour-long Halo series for Showtime, but he has left the project due to scheduling conflicts. According to both Wyatt and Showtime Programming President Gary Levine, time was added to the production process and the added time became a problem for Wyatt. “Obviously, the production demands of this series are enormous, and we have had to add time to the schedule in order to do it right,” Gary Levine stated.

The series was initially slated for a release sometime in 2020, however this setback has fans worried that ‘Halo’ will be trapped in Limbo yet again, and that the series will never see the light of day. Rupert Wyatt hopes this will not be the case, and the ‘Halo’ fans around the world hope so too.
