China’s Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation is partnering with tech giant Intel to use drones for the purpose of restoring the Great Wall. Being that the wall is more than 2,000 years old, it’s about time for some touch-ups. Drones will fly over the 13,000-mile-long structure while taking 3D images so the foundation can determine which parts need repair. This will make the process much faster, as it’s extremely dangerous for individuals to reach some areas of the Great Wall due to steep terrain, overgrown vegetation and erosion. If all goes well, Intel plans to use this drone method to restore other historical structures.
