Amazon Is Showing A Sneak Peek Of Its Very First Game

Amazon is creating its first-ever video game– and it’s a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (or MMORPG if you prefer).

The game, called New World, is one of the three games announced by the developers, Amazon Games Studio, way back in 2016. New World will allow players to work together to colonize an uncharted island where they can build their own civilizations from the ground up. It is set in the mid-1600s in a fictional island in the Atlantic, near Bermuda.

Amazon Games Studios was established and founded by the e-commerce giant in 2012, but it has remained relatively unknown up to now. Although it’s been around for more than half a decade now, the studio has only released smartphone and Amazon device apps. In 2016, the studio announced 3 games in development: New World, Crucible, and Breakaway, the latter of which has been dropped out of development.

As mentioned by Business Insider, few studios have the means to support an ongoing MMO, which can be very costly and difficult to maintain. New World will most likely be a sandbox for players, meant to build an experience together with other players “instead of providing a script.”

There is no news yet regarding New World‘s release date or whether it will be free-to-play or not. Amazon Game Studios has however invited game journalists for a sort of sneak peek of its first ever game soon, so stay tuned for updates.
