Steam Decks Available for Order Without Reservation

The official dock for the console is also available.

While Valve’s ambitious handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck, has been available since the beginning of 2022, not many players have been able to get one due to the reservation waitlist required with ordering. Valve has previously said that this is due to the ongoing supply chain issues plaguing businesses around the world, particularly the shortages of computer parts. As of this week, though, they’ve managed to bank enough Steam Deck units to open the floodgates.

As of this week, reservations are no longer required to order a Steam Deck. You can place your order for any of the three models, and assuming they’re in stock, the shipping and delivery process will begin right away.

“Starting today, Steam Deck is available without a reservation,” Valve said in a tweet. “Order one now, and we’ll ship it to you now.”

“Supply chain issues kept us from producing Steam Decks fast enough to meet demand,” Valve explained. “But now, even though the rate of reservations keeps growing, we’ve been able to increase our manufacturing volume to meet demand.”

In addition to the Steam Deck proper, Valve has also released the official Steam Deck dock, allowing you to connect the device to an external display like a TV. The dock costs $89, and is good to ship at the same rate as the Steam Deck itself.

For those who previously made a reservation for a Steam Deck, Valve has assured that their orders are on the way. However, Valve has also cautioned that, depending on the state of the supply chain and the number of orders they receive, they may need to switch back to a reservation framework in the future.

“We’re doing our best to keep Steam Decks in stock,” they explained. “But there’s always a chance demand will be outside our expectations. If that happens, some models in some regions might temporarily revert back to reservations, while we catch up.”
