The Oculus Rift was one of the first mainstream, virtual reality systems to come on the market and garner popularity. After the Rift, Oculus decided to release their Oculus Go system, to no avail. It seemed like VR was falling out of fashion, but the company wouldn’t let everything fall without one last, solid attempt. Introducing the Oculus Quest.
The Quest is essentially a reimagining of the Oculus Rift, but this time you don’t need a computer or any of the pesky hardware and sensors that devices like the HTC Vive make you set up. The Quest uses four internal motion control sensors, six degrees of freedom, and two fully responsive touch controllers.
Essentially, you’ll be able to play any Rift game on the Oculus without the need for a PC. Additionally, what makes the Quest stand out is its “Insight” technology and its ability to track the world around you in real time with a specialized computer vision algorithm. Another cumbersome thing you won’t need when using the Quest is headphones, for the audio is included in the headset. You have stunning 1600×1440 resolutions for both eyes as well, so it’s clear that the Oculus Quest means business.
Look out for you chance to join this Quest in Spring of 2019.
