Nintendo has revealed that their highly-lauded Nintendo Switch has sold around 8.7 million units in America since the release of the console. These sales numbers surpass those of any other current-gen video game console, including the widely popular PlayStation 4. But that’s not all; the Nintendo Switch is also the fastest-selling console in Japan, as well as Nintendo’s fastest-selling console of all-time. Quite the bounce back from the lukewarm Wii U console which has been all but forgotten.
The Nintendo Switch is regarded by many as being the greatest handheld video game console of all-time, and it’s honestly hard to dispute that claim. Alongside staple Nintendo titles like ‘Pokemon,’ ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ ‘Mario,’ and ‘Super Smash Bros,’ players are also able to play big-box titles such as ‘The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim’ and ‘Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus,’ games that would normally be nowhere near a handheld console.
With releases starting to pick up steam and a whole slew of prospective titles (not to mention copious rumors, such as the potential of ‘Persona 5’ on Switch), Nintendo has struck gold with the Nintendo Switch, and they can only go up from here.
