After three years, the hotly-anticipated game has gotten a new trailer.

Back in 2019, Team Cherry, the indie creators of the critically-acclaimed adventure game Hollow Knight, revealed the development of a brand new game, Hollow Knight: Silksong. According to the original announcement, Silksong was actually originally intended to be DLC content for the first game, but it became so big and required so many new assets, it ended up becoming its own project.

Since that initial announcement during a Nintendo Direct, however, Team Cherry has maintained near-complete radio silence on the project, barring the occasional assurance that, yes, they’re still working on it. During the Xbox/Bethesda presentation, yesterday, Silksong made a surprise appearance out of the blue with a brand new trailer, showcasing new gameplay, characters, and environments for the first time in three years. As for the reason why they appeared during an Xbox presentation, it is because Xbox confirmed that the game will be available day one on the Xbox Game Pass service, free to access for all Game Pass subscribers.

However, we’re not quite out of the woods yet. Many fans noticed the conspicuous lack of a concrete release date in the trailer, and unfortunately, Team Cherry has swiftly resumed their radio silence. We can say for certain, though, that Silksong will definitely be releasing some time in the next 12 months, and Microsoft has confirmed this. So at the very least, we will have Silksong by this time next year.

It is also not known whether the game will be a timed exclusive for Xbox consoles and Game Pass. Since it was their presentation, Microsoft is not obligated to reveal other launch platforms, though Silksong does already have a reserved Steam page, and it did original debut in a Nintendo Direct, so it will definitely appear on those platforms eventually if not right away. We’ll just have to wait and see… again.
