Google is jumping back into the smart glasses game, and honestly, this time they seem way more prepared. Remember Google Glass? That project crashed and burned back in 2015. But now, the company is giving it another go with two new types of AI glasses coming in 2026.

Here’s the exciting part. Google isn’t doing this alone. They’ve teamed up with Samsung, Warby Parker, and a high-end brand called Gentle Monster to actually make these glasses look good. Because let’s face it, nobody wants to wear something that screams “tech geek” on their face all day.

So what are these glasses all about? Well, Google is making two different versions. The first one doesn’t even have a screen. It works through speakers, microphones, and a camera built right into the frames. You can talk to Google’s Gemini AI assistant, take photos, and get help with stuff without staring at any display. If this sounds familiar, that’s because Meta already did something similar with their Ray-Ban smart glasses, which have been super popular.

The second version is the really cool one. These glasses have a tiny display built into the lens that only you can see. Imagine walking around a new city and getting directions right in front of your eyes. Or traveling abroad and seeing live translations of signs and menus without pulling out your phone. The display shows you notifications, navigation, and other helpful info exactly when you need it.

Both versions will run on something called Android XR. It’s Google’s new system made specifically for smart glasses and similar devices. The smart part is that most of the heavy work gets done by your phone, so the glasses stay light and the battery lasts longer. Companies like Uber are already working with Google to build apps that can guide you through crowded airports step by step.

The audio-only glasses should come out first in 2026. Warby Parker has already confirmed they’re making a version for next year. The ones with the display will also arrive in 2026, though Google hasn’t given us exact dates yet.

Right now, Meta pretty much owns the smart glasses market. But Google has some serious advantages. They’ve got the Gemini AI assistant, partnerships with actual fashion brands, and years of learning from their past mistakes. This could get interesting.
