Google is giving its wireless service, Google Fi, a major intelligence boost. The company just announced a wave of updates designed to make calling, messaging, and connecting smoother than ever — all powered by a dash of AI magic.
Crystal-Clear Calls, Courtesy of AI
Starting next month, Google Fi calls will get a noticeable sound upgrade. Thanks to AI-enhanced audio, conversations will sound clearer and more natural — even if you’re chatting with someone on an older phone or a noisy street. The feature automatically filters out background noise and fine-tunes voices so both sides come through loud and clear.
The best part? It’s on by default, so users won’t need to do a thing. Still, if you prefer the classic sound, you’ll have the option to turn it off.
RCS Messaging Goes to the Web
Google is also giving Messages for Web a long-overdue glow-up. Starting in December, users will enjoy a new interface with full RCS support, making it easier to share high-resolution photos, videos, and emoji-filled chats right from a computer browser. Think of it as Google’s version of iMessage for the web — sleek, fast, and fully in sync with your phone.
Smarter, More Secure Connections with Wi-Fi Auto Connect+
Staying connected in busy places is about to get a lot easier. Google Fi’s Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ is expanding to millions of new locations, including major airports like LAX, ORD, and JFK, as well as participating malls and stores.
The feature automatically connects you to premium Wi-Fi networks for a more stable connection — and, importantly, it encrypts your data automatically, keeping your browsing private and secure. You’ll know it’s active when a W+ icon appears in your status bar.
As Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager for Google Fi Wireless, put it, “We’re expanding availability of this feature to millions of locations… and we’re the only major carrier to automatically secure your online activity when you’re on premium Wi-Fi.”
AI Helps You Understand Your Bill, Too
Beyond calls and messaging, the Google Fi app is also getting smarter. It will now include AI-powered summaries that break down your charges, monthly changes, and even suggest how tweaking your plan could save you money in the future.
A Sweet Deal for New Users
To celebrate these updates, Google Fi is rolling out a limited-time offer: new subscribers who bring their own phone and join the Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Plan can get 50% off for 15 months.
A Step Toward a Smarter Network
With AI-enhanced calls, RCS web messaging, and smarter connectivity tools, Google Fi is shaping up to be more than just a wireless carrier — it’s becoming a smarter, more adaptive network built for modern users who expect clarity, security, and simplicity in one place.
