Hearthstone leader Ben Brode may be leaving Blizzard Entertainment to start his own gaming company, but that doesn’t mean the Hearthstone excitement is over. That’s right, the mid-year expansion for Hearthstone has been revealed, and it seems we’re going back to wacky mechanics and taking a break from the seriousness of expansions like “The Witchwood” and “Whispers of the Old Gods.”
Put on your goggles, ramp your computers to 11, and engage your robotic chickens: “The Boomsday Project” is Hearthstone’s newest expansion, and here are some of the amazing new features that come along with it.
First off, we’re going back to Mech-based mechanics, something we haven’t seen since “Goblins vs. Gnomes.” The keyword Magnetic allows you to combine two different Mech cards, akin to the old card ‘Mimiron’s Head,’ by placing a Magnetic Mech to the left of any Mech already on the board. Your Harvest Golem just got a lot more powerful.
Next, the long asked for Legendary Spells are finally coming. While the only one revealed so far is a druid card that draws your entire deck (what?), we are all shaking with Boom-ticipation to see what other explosive cards are coming.
We also get Omega cards that have ridiculous effects when played when you have 10 mana, and Project cards that give great bonuses to you AND your opponent. That might be an inevitable lab explosion that can backfire quick, but it’s something we’re definitely going to experiment with.
While there is no release date, “The Boomsday Project” is sure to crash onto the Hearthstone scene sometime in August. Currently, you can pre-order a 50 dollar and 80 dollar bundle, which gives you access to up to 80 card packs, a card back, a random golden legendary, and, if you’re willing to spend 80 bucks on a “free-to-play” game, you get the Mecha-Jaraxxus warlock Hero.
