After three years at the head of the table, Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene is stepping down.
Google first put Diane Greene in charge of their Google Cloud platform, back in 2015 when Google acquired Greene’s enterprise development startup Bebop. She will be replaced by former Oracle President of Product Development, Thomas Kurian. In an official blog post on Google Cloud’s website, Greene goes into details about her stepping down, as well as the appointment of Kurian. According to Greene, she had informed family members when she first signed on to Google that she would only be holding this position for several years, eliminating speculation that she is being given the boot. She also stated that she would be turning her attention towards her passion for mentoring and education.
Thomas Kurian will be coming on board on November 26th to learn all of the ins and outs of the job, and will be given full reign of control sometime in early January. As the former President of Product Development over at Oracle, he boasts an impressive resume and seems to be a great replacement candidate. After stepping down from Google Cloud, Greene will remain a member on the board of Alphabet, which is the parent company of Google. She will no doubt still have some semblance of influence over Google Cloud, at least in the short-term, as Thomas Kurian settles in to his new position.
