The Pokemon world is full of legendary Pokemon that have direct influence over the vital elements and building blocks of the planet, one of which is Landorus, the Abundance Pokemon. Landorus is the leader of the Forces of Nature quartet, possessing power enough to calm raging storms and bring about lush fields and abundant verdure. If you think you’ve got the guts to catch nature itself, then here’s a guide to the Landorus raid in Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go Landorus Raid Guide

To celebrate the full swing of spring, Landorus is headlining high-level Pokemon Go raids throughout the month of April, with a few extra appearances in May as well. For the first half of this raid period, Landorus will be appearing in its default Incarnate Forme, while in the back half, it’ll appear in its rarer Therian Forme. Here’s the exact raid schedule:

  • Incarnate Forme Landorus: April 10 at 10:00 AM to April 17 at 10:00 AM (all times are in your local time zone)
  • Therian Forme Landorus: April 25 at 10:00 AM to May 3 at 10:00 AM

Both formes of Landorus have the same typing, Ground/Flying, so while their base stats differ somewhat, any strategies you use to counter one forme can be applied to the other forme as well. With this particular typing, Landorus’s affinities break down like this:

  • Weak against: Water
  • Double-Weak against: Ice
  • Resistant to: Electric, Fighting, Bug, Poison
  • Double-Resistant to: Ground

To begin with, here are the moves in Incarnate Landorus’s kit:

Fast Attacks

  • Mud Shot (Ground)
  • Rock Throw (Rock)

Charged Attacks

  • Rock Slide (Rock)
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)
  • Outrage (Dragon)
  • Earth Power (Ground)

And here are the moves in Therian Landorus’s kit:

Fast Attacks

  • Mud Shot (Ground)
  • Extrasensory (Psychic)

Charged Attacks

  • Earthquake (Ground)
  • Bulldoze (Ground)
  • Stone Edge (Rock)
  • Superpower (Fighting)

Given its heightened weakness to Ice-type moves, your first instinct would probably be to use an Ice-type Pokemon. This is a bit of a tricky play, however, as Ice-types are weak against both Fighting and Rock-type moves. While they’re not the strongest moves in Landorus’s kit, its Fighting and Rock moves are bolstered by its naturally high attack stat. If you want an Ice type, you need to pick one that can mitigate some of those natural weaknesses while still packing enough strength to get Landorus on the backstep.

For this purpose, we recommend Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche as its selected moves. Mamoswine’s Ice/Ground typing removes its Rock weakness and shores it up against Landorus’s strong Ground moves. Its Fighting-type weakness is still a concern, but if you can deal enough damage, it may not matter.

If you’re lucky enough to have it, Articuno is another good choice, especially if it’s a Shadow Articuno. While its Ice/Flying typing makes it doubly weak against Rock moves, it’s doubly resistant to Ground moves, removing Landorus’s biggest threat. Double up on Ice moves like Frost Breath and Ice Beam to unleash some truly chilling DPS potential.

If you and your raid party can successfully defeat Landorus, you’ll get an opportunity to catch it. Remember, you only get a handful of Premier Balls to use, with the exact number determined by how many friends you battled with in the raid and how long the battle lasted. Use Razz Berries to increase Landorus’s affinity, and try to wait until it’s standing still before you try to chuck a ball.

You’ll have quite the feather in your cap if you can manage to catch Landorus. It’s known to be a contender in the Master League, and it’s a cool Pokemon to have in your corner besides.
