The Stanley Parable’s 5-Year Achievement Wait is Now Over

Originally released in 2013, The Stanley Parable was an experiment in interactive storytelling released for Steam. Originally a Half-Life 2 mod, the game became its own product and was published by developer Galactic Cafe. The game follows a mute office worker named Stanley trying to figure out where his coworkers went all while being prodded along by a narrator. The game currently possess a 91% positive rating on Steam and is considered the grandfather of the “walking simulator” genre.

Of note is the game’s esoteric achievements. One is completely unobtainable in normal gameplay and is instead randomly awarded to some players, and one requires you to play the game for the entire duration of a Tuesday. The one that players have been keeping an eye on is titled “Go Outside,” and requires that the game not be booted up a single time for five real years. The game’s creator, Davey Wreden, announced on his Twitter that, as of October 17th, the game’s five-year anniversary, it is now possible to obtain this strange little achievement. Players have returned to the game in droves, and Wreden’s tweet has reignited the fanbase’s enthusiasm, as well as begun demands for a sequel.
