January 18th has been confirmed as the release date of the second season of ‘Marvel’s The Punisher.’ The information comes from a tweet made by the Netflix account for the Middle East and North Africa. However, the tweet has since been deleted, leading some to believe that the announcement date for ‘The Punisher’ was not supposed to come out yet.
In addition to a release date from Netflix, Marvel has released a teaser for the second season of Frank Castle’s bloody crusade, and it’s bittersweet. Given Netflix’s string of Marvel show cancellations, pure excitement has been replaced with disappointment considering ‘The Punisher’s’ likely fate.
Exacerbating the feelings of bitterness that fans feel is the fact that no one knows why Netflix is cancelling their Marvel shows. Initially, it was believed that this was happening due to Disney owning Marvel, and since they planned to launch their own streaming service in 2019, it would be a conflict of interest. However, several people involved in the Marvel shows, from actresses to writers, have stated that Marvel was as surprised as everyone else when Netflix started giving its shows the ax. Cancelling the shows has apparently been their sole decision, and they have yet to give fans a reason why.
Be sure to mark January 18th on your calendar. This will likely be the last ride for The Punisher (at least for a few years), so we should enjoy it while we can.
