One of the major selling points for the upcoming Switch Online service is a free library of 20 NES games available to all subscribers, with more games added on a regular basis. To make the game experience a little more authentic, Nintendo is releasing a set of special NES controllers that can be docked on a Switch console.
These controllers have the same ridge with shoulder buttons as the regular JoyCon controllers, and can be used both as JoyCon substitutes and as controllers for the NES games (though they are intended more for the latter).
The controllers will be sold in sets of two for $59.99 and will be released in mid-December. There’s a catch, though: online subscribers to Switch Online will be permitted to purchase these controllers from Nintendo’s website, and only one purchase per account.
This seems to indicate that these controllers will not be available for sale on sites like Amazon or retailers like GameStop, though they haven’t quite clarified that.
