“All I Want for Christmas Is You”, is widely regarded as the greatest modern (ish) Christmas song of all time and the only one worthy of joining the legendary Christmas songs of decades past. It is Mariah Carey’s biggest seller internationally, and the 11th best-selling single of all time. So yes, you could say people like it a lot.
Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic has set the Spotify record for most streams for a single song in a day, with 10.8 million streams on Christmas Eve. This broke the previous record held by late rapper XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” which hit 10.3 million streams on June, 19th; a day after his death.
As if holding the all-time single day streaming record wasn’t enough, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” also passed the 1 billion stream mark as well. Mariah Carey herself tweeted her surprise about the two accomplishments shortly after the news was revealed.
Classics never die, and even with the age of CDs pretty much dead, the classics will live on in the streaming era.
