I wish the technological singularity would hurry up and get here already. I want man and machine to merge so I can become a cyborg. LG’s got the idea, or at least half of one, with the next entry in their line of CLOi robots: “SuitBot,” the wearable robot. Well, it’s billed as a robot, but it’s more of an exoskeleton.
An exoskeleton is a machine worn on the body with the intent of enhancing a human’s natural capabilities. Most of these are built for the upper body and are worn over the arms. SuitBot is worn over the user’s legs and aids in physically strenuous tasks like pushing and lifting, all from the lower body.
Unlike medical exoskeletons that re-enable walking in the physically disabled, SuitBot is meant to be used by someone who already has full control of their legs in an effort to make them stronger. No word yet on when (or even if) SuitBot will be commercially available, but hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later.
