One of the most frustrating things about owning a computer is when you’re running out of space and everything slows down to a snail’s pace.
If you don’t feel like investing in a new computer, there are a couple of things you can do to boost your speed without having to pay for a brand new rig.
Upgrade your RAM
If you notice that your PC has less than 4GB of RAM, you will want to consider boosting it up to that at least. This is typically a pretty quick and cheap way to up the speed of your computer. If you are already at 4GB, there really is no advantage to upgrading it any higher, unless you are into gaming.
Upgrade to a SSD
If you are already sitting at 4GB and not seeing any speed improvement, it may be time to swap out your hard drive for an SSD. You can purchase an SSD online and will just need to know the basics of your computer model. Depending on your PC, you may need either a 5.25-inch or 3.5-inch tray to fit in a bay. The bay needs to be designed for a hard drive or optical drive. If you have a basic understanding of how to fit and remove storage devices, you will be fine. If not, you may want to contact a family member, friend, or someone from a computer store to install for you. You also want to have knowledge of how your BIOS works. You will need to understand which drive the system boots up from. You can search online for the manual to your motherboard since there are many models out there.
