Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro AR headset was unveiled at WWDC 2023, showcasing cutting-edge technology and a sleek ski goggle-like design. The headset and the groundbreaking visionOS operating system offer users a comprehensive AR experience.

The Vision Pro’s chassis features a tinted front panel that acts as a lens and conceals a built-in fan for efficient cooling. It offers customization with interchangeable bands and an adjustable dial. Apple collaborated with Zeiss to develop magnetic lenses for prescription wearers.

Unlike other AR headsets, the Vision Pro has a separate battery pack connected via wire, providing up to two hours of usage. Alternatively, users can connect it to a power source for extended sessions.

With two displays, the Vision Pro delivers an impressive 23 million pixels. A custom 3D lens ensures a clear UI, complemented by HDR and “wide color” features. The headset incorporates advanced eye and hand tracking sensors and lidar sensors for real-time object detection.

Apple’s R1 chip is powering the Vision Pro, eliminating lag and enabling lightning-fast image streaming. The chip also introduces EyeSight, projecting a live feed of the user’s eyes onto an external display for a transparent effect.

VisionOs, the dedicated operating system, revolutionize spatial computing. It shares core components with MacOS and iOS, offering a three-dimensional interface and adapting to different light conditions.

At launch, visionOS will provide a wide range of apps, including native Unity apps, Adobe Lightroom, and Microsoft Office. The app store will offer over 100 Apple Arcade titles for entertainment.

Notably, popular video conferencing platforms like FaceTime, Teams, Webex, and Zoom will support 3D avatars, enhancing communication experiences on the Vision Pro.

With the Vision Pro and visionOS, Apple showcases its commitment to advancing AR and spatial computing. By seamlessly integrating top-of-the-line hardware and software, Apple is pushing the boundaries and ushering in a new era of AR innovation across industries.
