4 Simple Tips to Keep a Computer Healthy & Running

Gadgets, computers and laptops are something most of us invest a lot in. unfortunately, most of these things wear off in a year or two and then we go blaming the company for their lame products and services. Now even though this may come as a shock to you, the truth is that the fault lays not in the product itself but the way you take care of it. If you are careless about your gadgets and computers, how do you expect them to run efficiently? For example if you spill coffee or tea on your laptop, do you expect it to function in the same way as before? This is why I have compiled a list of 4 very simple, everyday tips that you can apply to your computer or laptop to make sure that the gadget you have invested in works for longer. Here’s what you can do.

Step 1: Connect a UPS
For most of us amateurs, the setting up of a computer is easy where we simply connect the computer’s power supply to that of the main. This is a huge mistake because even though you may not realize it, there are a lot of spikes in the main power supply and this may either damage your computer in the long run or a surge of power may even short circuit the entire thing altogether, in which case you won’t be able to do anything to save it. This is why it is suggested that you get a UPS which regulates the power and only gives the computer the power that it needs.

Step 2: Keep it cool
Another reason why your desktop computer may get damaged is if it is not getting enough air or cooling. You need to bear in mind that the computer is something which runs a lot of things in a mere second and that there is a lot of load on it and so it heats up pretty fast. Now as with cars and other technologies, heating up is not a good thing and it destroys cars and gadgets pretty quickly. Now if you do not want to be one of the victims whose computer or laptop stopped functioning because it wasn’t cool enough, then you need to start checking your fans on a regular basis. If you have a desktop computer, a little peek will do to make sure the fan is running properly. However, if you have a laptop, it is recommended you get an external cooler to place under the laptop.

Step 3: Backup
Backups are important even though many of us are unaware of the fact or simply ignore it as something that isn’t necessary. A computer won’t warn you when and how it’s going to crash and so you have to make sure you have all your data stored away in a backup so you don’t have any chance of losing the information.

Step 4: Software Checks
Hardware is not the only thing which needs to be protected to make your computer running efficiently; you also need to make sure there are no glitches in the software. As mentioned, backup is the first step you need to take to make certain that all your information is protected. Other than that, you should have regular or at least weekly software checks. Keep your OS and anti-virus up to date and do not fall for schemes which are common on the web.
