Right when Detective Pikachu was giving me hope for an age of good video game movies…
So, the first trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie came out today, and, uh… yeah. It’d be unprofessional of me to make any loaded statements, but I’m sure anyone reading this has drawn their own, likely correct, conclusions by now. Let’s just go over the plot.
Sonic the Hedgehog follows the titular needle-mouse (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he somehow makes his way to the city of Green Hills, San Francisco, where he runs into local sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). I’m conjecturing a bit from the trailer here, but it seems like Sonic accidentally caused a sonic boom, knocking out power for quite a few people, and landing himself on the military’s most wanted. The military contracts the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to hunt down this creature, though he has his own plans. Sonic and Wachowski must evade capture and defeat Robotnik to save the world from his nonspecific dominance.
The movie is reported to have a budget of $90 million (most of which I assume went to Sonic’s teeth), and is set to hit theaters on November 8th, 2019. Yay.
