Yesterday, we talked about Care-E, the luggage carrying robot. Well apparently, that’s not the only upgrade coming to airports in the U.S. Your bags are about to get personal CAT scans whenever you go the airport, and it could potentially speed up the security process tenfold.
TSA has teamed up with American Airlines to create a 3D luggage scanner. This CT (computed tomography) bag scanner would be able to create a full, 3D image of your entire suitcase, making removing things like laptops a thing of the past. The machine would digitally render an image that TSA agents would be able to rotate and zoom in on, even through the most cluttered of bags. Agents believe they’d be able to detect items quicker and with more accuracy, making the entire process smoother. Additionally, within the next five years, experts predict that passengers will no longer have to remove any items from their carry-ons when traversing security.
Late July is when these machines were expected to roll out at JFK international airports, but testing has already begun in both Boston and Phoenix. These Analogic brand machines are going to forever impact the way we fly, and could be in up to 240 different airports by the end of 2019.
