“As long as these Pants are Square, and this Sponge is Bob, I will not let Bikini Bottom down!”

Back in the early 2000s, everyone was trying to get a piece of the 3D platformer pie. You name a movie or TV show, there was a 3D platformer for it. Most of them were terrible; I think we’d all like to forget The Cat in the Hat existed. But there were a rare few that managed to endure and become cult classics. One of those games was SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Late last year, it was announced that this porous platformer would be receiving a complete modern overhaul courtesy of THQ Nordic and Purple Lamp Studios, with updated graphics and music, a new horde multiplayer mode, and restored content that was cut from the original game. Yesterday, we finally got a release date for this nostalgic trip.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated will be releasing on all platforms on June 23, this summer. The game will be available in both physical and digital, and there will also be two special editions. The first, the Shiny Edition, includes the game, a SpongeBob figurine, a set of wall stickers, a set of lithographs, and a pair of tennis socks (it makes sense in context). The second, the F.U.N. Edition, includes everything from the Shiny Edition, as well as a set of tiki keyrings and Patrick and Sandy figurines.

Pre-orders are open now for all platforms. The regular version will cost $29.99, the Shiny Edition will cost $149.99, and the F.U.N. Edition will cost $299.99. If you pre-order the PC version, you’ll also receive a 15-track soundtrack of remastered game music.
