Splatoon 3 has become the fastest-selling Switch game so far.

Last Friday saw the long-awaited release of Nintendo’s first-party multiplayer shooter game, Splatoon 3. After the extremely positive reception of the previous game at the Nintendo Switch’s initial launch, fans have been eager to get their hands on new squid and kid inking action. Based on the initial sales of the game on its home turf in Japan, it seems like the game has very much not disappointed.

According to an official announcement from Nintendo, in only three days since its launch, Splatoon 3 has sold over 3.45 million physical and digital copies in Japan alone.

“Nintendo Co., Ltd. announced that domestic sales of the Splatoon 3 game for the Nintendo Switch system have surpassed 3.45 million units in the first three days since its launch on September 9, 2022,” reads the announcement on Nintendo’s corporate blog. “This is the highest domestic sales level for any Nintendo Switch software within the first three days.”

Even outside of Japan, Splatoon 3 has been absolute dynamite, topping sales charts in the United Kingdom and United States and bringing the global sales total to around 4.95 million. That’s a major leap from the initial sales of the very first game in the series released on the Wii U, which performed much more modestly. It seems that Splatoon has managed to successfully cement itself as one of Nintendo’s modern flagship properties, which means we’ll likely see more of the Inklings and Octolings going forward.
